Contemporary Furniture DesignContemporary design is often associated with open uncluttered spaces resulting in a clean appeal. Traditional squares and rectangles are replaced with curves and vibrant or subdued colors. Nature and all of her elements are invited into the interior of the home. Functionality is also considered in addition to appeal. The finest contemporary designs are often found in Europe, in particular Italy. Italian furniture is the finest in the world.
Mixing traditional and contemporary design together is called eclectic design. Taken to extreme, eclectic design can create stunning appeal. An example of extreme eclectic design would be a room filled with contemporary furniture with only one antique piece giving the feel that time is represented well in the design, and that the future has arrived and it's wonderful!
What about color? Color matters regardless of which type of interior design (contemporary, traditional, or eclectic). If the colors of your room are not balanced properly the result is awful like a musician playing out of key. Here are few pointers. Modern furniture often reflects the colors of nature. To see the colors of nature go outside. Look around you. Notice that green and brown are most obvious. Remember that black, white, and gray are "neutral colors". These three colors go with about anything. Also, you can study color harmony online using our convenient link - Color Harmony. Selecting the right color or finish for your furniture is crucial. What are platform beds? There is no box spring with a platform bed. The Madera Italian platform bed is an excellent example of a platform bed. The European platform bed supports a mattress only and is better for your health. The box spring does serve one important purpose. It raises the height of the mattress by an additional 12". European beds tend to be lower to the floor. European platform beds use orthopedic slats. Orthopedic slats offer better support for your mattress than a box spring. Box springs sag so that you back is not straight while you sleep. This is why many doctors recommend orthopedic slats for patients with back pain. If you want to experiment with the difference in feel between a platform and box spring bed, throw your mattress on the floor and sleep on it. The only difference is that the orthopedic slats are much softer than the floor. They are made of wood slats that are bowed upward resulting in a firm spring. The floor has no spring so the orthopedic slats will be softer but similar in feel to the floor in that weight is distributed evenly. With a box spring weight increases sag. With orthopedic slats there is no sag or bow. Regardless of which type of bed you choose always purchase a quality mattress or box spring that are both firm. All of our beds are made to fit American standard mattress sizes. You can purchase online and save at Mattress Online. Less expensive poor quality soft mattresses and box springs are not good for your health, period. Also, the springs in both the mattress and box spring wear out over time. You can turn your mattress to make it last longer and it will continue to support your back the way it was designed.
What about the Finish? The Italians and Canadians go the extra mile for finish. They use stain, sealer, and varnish. The varnish is expensive. Even more expensive is our Excelsior collection uses a thick high-gloss polyurethane finish. The results is a mirror like durable finish that can be repaired by a professional very quickly. Regardless of the finish you chose, it is the skill of and craftsmanship that goes into the finish that makes the difference. The attention to detail found in Italy is like no other in the world. And Canada does an extraordinary job too.
What is Micro-fiber? Micro-fiber is man made suede. Why not use real suede? You can use real suede but it is more expensive, less durable, and much harder to clean than Micro-fiber. In deed, quality Micro-fiber looks and feels exactly like real suede but is much more durable. In fact, Micro-fiber is made of polyester. And just like cleaning a polyester shirt, all you need to clean Micro-fiber is a clean damp cloth. In addition, do you know how a real suede coat wears at the collar and at the elbows? Micro-fiber does not do that. We use Micro-fiber today because it is better than real suede. 1 Contemporary Furniture only sells high-end Micro-fiber.
